H. G. Allen office files, 1951-1953
The collection consists of the office files of the Rev. Dr. H. G. Allen who served as the Superintendent of Lake Junaluska Assembly from 1951-1953. The collection includes correspondence, financial records and subject files related to his work as Superintendent. A few of the significant events during this time period included the completion and dedication of the Room of Memory and the construction of a new administration building. In 1952 the Rev. Billy Graham preached in Stuart Auditorium for the first time. He would return on six additional occasions.
CARR, JIMMY L.
Jimmy L. Carr office files, 2000-2010
The collection consists of the office files of the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Carr who served as Executive Director of Lake Junaluska Assembly from 1994-2000. The collection includes correspondence, financial records and subject files related to his work as superintendent. During Rev. Carr’s time as Executive Director the Assembly observed its ninetieth anniversary, and the Bethea Welcome Center was constructed. Extensive efforts were made to increase the racial and ethnic diversity of the Assembly staff.
FOWLER, JAMES W.
James W. Fowler office files, 1953-1967
The collection consists of the office files of the Rev. James W. Fowler who served as the Superintendent of Lake Junaluska Assembly from 1953-1967. The collection includes correspondence, financial records and subject files related to his work as Superintendent. During Fowler’s time as superintendent the World Methodist Council constructed its headquarters building at the Assembly. Of special interest are files related to the subject of racial integration of the Assembly. Total integration of the facilities was achieved in 1964.
LOVE, F.S.
F. S. Love office files, 1944-1949
The collection consists of the office files of F. S. Love, who served as the Superintendent of Lake Junaluska Assembly from 1944-1950. The collection includes correspondence, financial records and subject files regarding people and places related to his work as Superintendent. During Love’s tenure, Memorial Chapel was completed and dedicated, a highway was built through Assembly property providing a by-pass of Waynesville, and land on the south side of the lake belonging to Florida Southern College was purchased.
NEASE, EDGAR
Edgar H. Nease office files, 1971-1976
The collection consists of the office files of the Rev. Dr. Edgar H. Nease who served as the Executive Director of Lake Junaluska Assembly from 1971-1976. The collection includes correspondence, financial records and subject files related to his work as Executive Director. Significant events include the demolition of the original Terrace Hotel and the beginning of construction of Phase I of its replacement, extensive repairs to the dam, and other major capital improvements.
PONDER, REGINALD W.
Reginald W. Ponder office files, 1986-1993
The collection consists of the office files of the Rev. Dr. Reginal W. Ponder who served as the Executive Director of Lake Junaluska Assembly from 1986-1993. The collection includes correspondence, financial records and subject files related to his work as Superintendent. A few of the significant events during this time period include the completion of the Tri-Vista condominium complex, establishment of the Southeastern Jurisdictional Administrative Council, Inc. (SEJAC), an extensive renovation of Stuart Auditorium, the completion of the Turbeville Footbridge, and the construction of a walkway around the lake.

The collection includes correspondence, audit reports, Board of Trustees files, press releases, and subject files related to his work as superintendent. Activities documented in this collection include the establishment of Interpreter’s House, directed by Carlyle Marney, the founding of the Junaluska Associates organization, and the creation of the International Prayer Room at Lambuth Inn.
